How long does a house cleaning take? Hours by home size

Short answer: a standard clean of a 3-bedroom, 2-bath house takes about 2.5 to 3.5 hours for one experienced cleaner[1], or about 2 to 3 hours on site with a team of two[2][3]. A first or deep clean of the same house takes about 4 to 6 hours[1][2]. Bathrooms, pets, clutter and how long it's been since the last clean change the time more than bedrooms do.

Updated 2026-10-24. Times are other cleaning companies' published estimates, cited below; prices come straight from our live price list.

Cleaner-hours vs time on site

Estimates disagree mostly because they count different things. Cleaner-hours (labor hours) are the total work; time on site is how long people are in your home. Two cleaners working in parallel finish in a bit over half the time of one: MaidProfit says a two-person team cuts the time by roughly 40-45%[1], and Maids of Movher says a team of two can cut clock hours roughly in half[4]. So "3 hours" from a solo cleaner and "1.5 to 2 hours" from a pair can be the same amount of cleaning. When you compare quotes or judge a visit, ask how many people are coming.

Hours by home size

Standard means a maintenance clean (kitchen, bathrooms, dusting, floors, trash). The first column is MaidProfit's benchmark for one experienced cleaner[1]; the other two are M.I.L. Cleaners' estimate for a two-person crew, which it labels its own estimate rather than an industry statistic[2].

Move-out and move-in cleans run longer than deep cleans because cabinets, closets and appliances are cleaned inside: Maids of Movher adds 30-50% to its standard times for move-in/move-out[4].

Per room, The Prime Cleaner budgets 20 to 30 minutes for a maintained kitchen, 20 to 30 minutes per bathroom, 15 to 25 minutes for the main bedroom, 10 to 15 minutes for each other bedroom, and 15 to 25 minutes for living and dining areas, about 2 to 3.5 hours in total for one person[3].

What makes a clean take longer

Doing it yourself

In the 2025 American Time Use Survey, Americans 15 and older averaged 34 minutes a day on housework, and the 36% who did housework on a given day spent about 1.55 hours on it[5]. Maids of Movher's 3-bed, 2-bath estimate for one person is 3 to 5 hours for a standard clean[4]; a homeowner without a routine or pro equipment will usually be at the slower end. If you're splitting the work, the room-by-room cleaning schedule and the deep cleaning checklist help.

What the hours cost

Independent cleaners who charge by the hour list about $19.62 to $24.00 an hour in Peoria on Care.com[6]. At those rates, a standard 3-bedroom clean of 2.5 to 3.5 cleaner-hours works out to roughly $49 to $84 before supplies, and you carry the scheduling, backup and household-employer questions yourself (see hiring a house cleaner in Peoria). Companies, including us, usually quote a flat price that includes supplies, travel and scheduling; compare prices in house cleaning cost in Peoria.

How long a Wrenly Home visit takes

We price by bedrooms and bathrooms, not by the hour, so a visit that runs long costs you nothing extra. Wrenly Home is new to the Peoria area and hasn't completed enough cleans to publish our own averages; we plan recurring visits for a 2-3 bedroom home at about 2.5 to 4 cleaner-hours and a first deep clean at roughly half again as long, which sits inside the published ranges above. Cleans happen Monday to Saturday between 8am and 5pm Central, and you don't need to be home.

Frequently asked questions

How many hours does it take to clean a 3-bedroom house?

For a standard (maintenance) clean of a 3-bedroom, 2-bath home, published estimates from cleaning companies are about 2.5 to 3.5 hours for one experienced cleaner, or about 2 to 3 hours on site for a team of two. A first or deep clean of the same house is about 4 to 6 hours. Bathrooms, pets, clutter and how long since the last clean move it most.

How long does professional house cleaning take?

Most standard cleans of a typical 2-3 bedroom home take one cleaner roughly 1.5 to 3.5 hours by published estimates, and a team of two finishes in a bit over half that clock time. Deep and move-out cleans take roughly 1.5 to 2 times as long as a standard clean of the same home.

How long should a cleaning lady take?

There's no standard time. Judge a visit by whether the agreed checklist was done, not by the clock: a crew of two can do a standard 3-bedroom clean in 2 to 3 hours, while one person working alone may need 3 to 5. A fast visit that skipped bathrooms is a problem; a fast visit by two people often isn't.

How long does a biweekly house cleaning take?

An every-two-weeks visit is a standard (maintenance) clean, so the standard times apply: about 2.5 to 3.5 cleaner-hours for a 3-bedroom, 2-bath home in published estimates. The first visit on a plan takes longer because it's a deep clean.

How long does a deep clean of a house take?

Roughly 1.5 to 2 times a standard clean of the same home: about 4 to 6 hours for a 3-bedroom house in the estimates cited here. MaidProfit's own rule of thumb is that deep cleans take 1.8 times longer than standard[1].

Does Wrenly Home charge by the hour?

No. Our price is flat by bedrooms and bathrooms and shown before you book (for a 3-bedroom, 2-bath home: $179 per visit every two weeks, $269 for a deep clean). If a clean takes longer than planned, the price doesn't change.
