Which cleaning does an apartment need?
- Recurring cleaning (every week, every two weeks or monthly) while you live there: kitchen, bathrooms, dusting and floors on every visit.
- Deep cleaning once, for a catch-up or before guests: adds baseboards, doors, fans, vents, blinds, sills and tracks, grout and the inside of the microwave and oven (oven on request).
- Move-out or move-in cleaning when the unit is empty: adds the inside of the fridge, oven, cabinets, drawers and closets.

Moving out of a rental: security deposits in Illinois
This is a plain-language summary of the statute, not legal advice. Under the Illinois Security Deposit Return Act[2]:
- A landlord who wants to keep any part of a deposit for damage must give you an itemized statement of the damage and the estimated or actual cost of each repair, with paid receipts (or copies), within 30 days of the date you moved out or your right of possession ended, whichever is later. If the costs were estimates, the receipts must follow within 30 days of the statement.
- If no statement and receipts are given, the landlord must return the full deposit within 45 days of the date you moved out.
- If your written lease lists a cost for cleaning, repairing or replacing something, the landlord may withhold that amount, but such costs have to be for damage beyond normal wear and tear.
- Give your landlord a forwarding mailing or email address in writing: the Act says a landlord isn't liable for damages or penalties that result from a tenant not providing one.
- If a court finds a landlord refused to give the statement or acted in bad faith and didn't return what was due, the landlord owes twice the amount due plus court costs and reasonable attorney's fees.
Separately, in a building or complex with 25 or more units, a landlord who holds a deposit for more than 6 months must pay interest on it under the Security Deposit Interest Act[3]. Our printable move-out cleaning checklist covers what landlords usually inspect, and ends with a key-handoff list.
Do you clean studio apartments?
Yes. A studio is priced the same as a 1-bedroom with one bathroom: $109 weekly, $119 every two weeks, $145 monthly, $175 for a deep clean and $229 for a move-out clean.
Will a move-out clean get my security deposit back?
We can't promise that. Your landlord decides deductions under your lease and Illinois law, and cleaning can't fix damage. A move-out clean leaves the unit cleaned to our written checklist, including the inside of the fridge, oven, cabinets and drawers, and you can take dated photos afterwards for your records.
Do I need to be home, and how does the cleaner get in?
No. Leave access details (door or building code, lockbox, where to pick up a key, which buzzer, where to park) in your booking notes. For a move-out, water and electricity must still be on.
Do you work with apartment landlords and property managers?
Yes. Use the contact form (topic "Realtor / property manager") and tell us how many units you have. Each unit is priced from the same table by bedrooms and bathrooms. We don't do same-day turnovers or short-term-rental (Airbnb) cleaning.

Who cleans your apartment?
Your home is cleaned by established, well-reviewed local cleaning professionals and small cleaning companies we subcontract with. Before one takes a Wrenly job, they must show solid public reviews and a reference we contact, complete a paid trial clean we inspect against our checklist, carry their own liability insurance (we keep their certificate of insurance on file) and sign a subcontractor agreement.
What if something is missed?
If something on our checklist was missed, tell us within 48 hours of the visit (a photo helps) and we will come back and re-clean those areas free, usually within 3 business days. If a re-clean doesn't work for you, we credit the price of that visit instead (or refund it, up to the visit price, if you have no upcoming visit).
