What a move-in clean covers

Plus everything on the deep-clean list: baseboards, door frames and doors hand-wiped; inside the microwave and oven (oven interior on request), outside of fridge and range hood; kitchen cabinet fronts fully wiped; shower and tub detailing: soap scum and grout scrubbed; ceiling fans, vents and blinds dusted; window sills and tracks cleaned.

Not included: exterior windows, gutters, garages, decks; moving furniture heavier than one person can safely lift; biohazards (mold remediation, pests, bodily fluids), hoarding situations; anything that needs a ladder taller than a two-step stool; laundry, dishes beyond a sink load, and organizing. We don't shampoo carpets.

When to book it

The best window is after you get the keys and before the moving truck: an empty home is faster to clean properly, and nothing has to be moved. Water and electricity must be on. If painters, flooring installers or the previous occupants are still working, book the clean for after they finish. If something on our checklist is missed, tell us within 48 hours and we come back (re-clean guarantee).

First-week checklist for a new Peoria-area home

  1. Utilities on before cleaning day. Water and electricity must be on for a move-in clean. Ameren Illinois handles moving in or out of its service area online (an online account is needed) or by phone; its Illinois residential line is 1-800-755-5000, Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.[2][3]
  2. Forward your mail. USPS change of address costs a $1.25 identity verification fee online, or is free at a Post Office with photo ID and PS Form 3575 from the Mover's Guide. Standard forwarding lasts 12 months; allow 7 to 10 business days for it to start[4].
  3. Tell the Secretary of State within 10 days. Illinois law requires drivers to notify the Secretary of State of a new residence address within 10 days of moving, and vehicle owners to report the new address for their registration within 10 days[5][6].
  4. Check the smoke alarms. New smoke alarms installed in Illinois homes since January 1, 2023 must have a 10-year sealed battery; older ones can stay until they are 10 years past the manufacture date, fail a test or malfunction[7]. Press the test button on each one before you unpack.
  5. Check for carbon monoxide alarms. Illinois requires at least one working CO alarm within 15 feet of every room used for sleeping; renters test them and replace batteries, and the owner must make sure batteries work when a tenant moves in[8]. Homes that burn no fossil fuel for heat or hot water and aren't connected to a garage are exempt[9].
  6. Trash and recycling (City of Peoria). Inside Peoria city limits, single-family homes up to four-unit buildings get trash collected weekly and recycling every other week by GFL Environment under a city contract; yard waste is weekly from mid-March to mid-December. The fee is on your property tax bill as a "Garbage Fee", and you can sign up online for a trash cart and up to two recycling carts[10]. Outside Peoria, check with your village or city hall.
  7. Homeowners: homestead exemption. Peoria County's Supervisor of Assessments asks new purchasers to contact the office so the general homestead exemption (up to $6,000 off equalized assessed value each year) is applied, and notes the seller's exemption for the sale year carries over to the buyer[11]. Tazewell County's Assessment Office in Pekin (309-477-2275) recommends filing the first homestead exemption in person[12]. Woodford County homeowners (Germantown Hills, Metamora) file with that county's Supervisor of Assessments.
  8. Renters: photograph the unit. Take dated photos of every room, appliance and closet before you move anything in, and keep any move-in condition report. It's the record you'll compare against at move-out; our Illinois security deposit guide explains the rules at the other end of the lease.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a move-in cleaning in Peoria, IL?

A Wrenly Home move-in clean is the same service and price as a move-out clean: $229 for a studio or 1-bedroom, $289 for 2 bedrooms, $369 for 3, $459 for 4 and $575 for 5, plus $30 per extra bathroom. The inside of the fridge, oven, cabinets and drawers is included.

What's the difference between a move-in and a move-out clean?

The checklist is the same. The difference is timing: a move-in clean is done in the empty home before your furniture and boxes arrive, so shelves, drawers, closets and the fridge are clean when you unpack.

When should I schedule a move-in clean?

After you have the keys and before the movers arrive, with water and electricity on. If the previous occupants or a contractor are still finishing work, book it after they're done. We confirm your date by email within one business day, and if we can't schedule you within 10 days we refund you in full.

Do I need to be there?

No. Many new owners and renters leave a lockbox or door code; add it to the booking notes. Someone needs to let us in or leave access at the scheduled time.

Which towns do you cover?

Peoria, Peoria Heights, Dunlap, Morton, Washington, Germantown Hills, Metamora, East Peoria, Chillicothe, Pekin, in 15 ZIP codes. The booking form checks your ZIP code before you pay.

Do Illinois homes need new smoke alarms?

The Office of the State Fire Marshal says that since January 1, 2023 any new smoke alarm installed in a single- or multi-family home must have a 10-year sealed battery; older alarms may stay until they are 10 years past their manufacture date, fail a test or malfunction. Homes built after 1988 with hardwired alarms, and homes with wireless integrated alarms, are exempt.

How do I get the homestead exemption on a home I just bought?

In Peoria County, the Supervisor of Assessments asks new purchasers to contact the office (Peoria County Courthouse, 324 Main Street, Room 301, 309-672-6910) to make sure the exemption is applied; the general homestead exemption reduces equalized assessed value by up to $6,000 a year and renews automatically. In Tazewell County (Pekin, Morton, Washington, East Peoria), the Assessment Office (11 South Fourth Street, McKenzie Building, Suite 410, Pekin, 309-477-2275) recommends filing the first homestead exemption in person.

Do you shampoo carpets or clean garages?

No. We vacuum carpets and clean hard floors, but we don't shampoo or steam carpets, and garages, exterior windows and decks aren't included.
